I have my iMac 27" (Mid 2011) connected to a Sony AV Receiver. When I do a sound check the sound that should be coming from the center speaker is coming from the rear left speaker. Does anyone know a solution for this problem?

- The speakers are connected correctly, i tested with my xbox while playing a DVD
- The applications i have tried are VLC, Mplayer, plex
- Quicktime Pro 7 is playing from the correct channels

Try using Audio MIDI Setup app from the Utilities folder.

7.1 to 5.1

I had the exact same problem; center sound through rear left speaker. On gaghamashiba's advice (thank you) I opened Audio Midi setup. In the HDMI folder, I found that the speaker setup was set to 7.1. After changing it to 5.1, everything seems to be okay.

Mine is set to 5.1 but I still have the problem, what are your other settings?
