I’m trying to work out if this potential setup change would work, or be a crushing compatibility nightmare - advice appreciated.
Current setup:
Work machine: Dell Latitude 5400 (with Thunderbolt) laptop —>
Dell D6000 dock —>
2 x Philips QHD monitors via DisplayPort
2019 iMac
Connected to one of the QHD monitors, as a second display (Thunderbolt to USB-C)
If I were to replace the iMac with a Studio and Studio Display, and get work to give me a WD19TBS instead of the D6000 dock, could I get rid of one of the Philips monitors and use the Studio Display in its place? Or are there numerous problems I’d encounter?
Potential new setup:
Latitude 5400 —>
WD19TBS —>
1 x Philips QHD monitor (via DisplayPort)
1 x Studio Display (via Thunderbolt USB-C?)
Mac Studio —>
1 x Studio Display (Thunderbolt)
1 x Philips monitor (HDMI)
…accepting that I would have to manually switch the Thunderbolt cable over on the Studio Display to alternate between Mac and the laptop?
I don’t need full 5K on the Studio Display when connected to the laptop: QHD would be fine.
