Hello everyone, I have a question if it is possible to change the mainboard from iMac 27" 2015 to iMac 27" 2012, or if it is possible to change the screens from 2012 to 2015. I am asking because I can buy an iMac 2015 5K at a good price with a damaged matrix. I currently have an iMac 2012 so I ask

Best place to start is by looking at the pictures on both models on iFixit. I doubt the 2012 screen will work with the 2015 motherboard. If i am correct, i think the retina displays have more pins on the connectors for the larger data throughput. If the motherboard would fit inside the 2012 case or vice versa, maybe? The 2012-2017 look pretty similar, i'm checking that out...

Well looking at the pictures do not help, looks like if the steps are the same for older models they re-use the same pictures... But EMC numbers do not match though.

The resolutions do not match on those two models.
You can purchase an LCD driver board for the 5K LCD and turn it to a complete monitor with lots of ports.

resolutions do not match, I know, I thought that it can be physically connected and that the native resolution can be changed to 2K. There is no information on this, so no one has tried it or it is simply impossible to mix motherboards or LCDs with each other

Even the parts shop is selling different driver board for LCD with different resolutions.

Even for the same 5K resolutions, different LCD panels must go with different driver boards designed for them. Even when the prices are about the same, the seller insists on the buyer checking for the exact model name before placing order.

You are welcome to be the pioneer to change that principle.
