I’m swapping phones with my wife. She’s getting my 14 pro max and I’m getting her 13.

How do I switch from esim back to physical sim? Do I need to request one from AT&T? She would be switching to esim obviously.

Also, is it possible to migrate our individual device data to each other without either of them having a factory reset? I assume that isn’t possible because one of the phones has to have a factory reset before a data migration can occur. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Maybe a full iCloud backup would work instead?

The 13 also supports eSIM so there is no need to change back to a physical sim.
You are right about the data transfer, backup to a pc/mac or icloud for 1 device should be enough.
I don´t know if the eSIM profile is part of the backup so best would be to backup the 13 to pc/mac/icloud and then use the device to device transfer for moving the data of the 14 to the 13...

Thank you. I didn't know the 13 also supports eSIM. I appreciate your help with this!

I do have another question that might be more related to the carrier (AT&T).

The 13 will be eligible for an upgrade in 6 months. Regardless of when we do the upgrade with it, it’s on my wife’s line on the account. Whatever we upgrade that to, I’ll end up taking and using it on my line. Really we’re just switching phones at that point but the device installments are attached to our respective lines.

Is that possible with how upgrades are done and they want them activated on the correct lines? Will I just have to do the device migration again after the new phone is activated on her line?

If it’s complicated I probably won’t even bother with Upgrading that 13 to anything. I’ll just use the 13 and forgo any upgrading for a while.
