I tried going on the internet with my wife's Macbook but the Airport card will not turn on. I googled the problem on my ipad and and tried some suggestions, but decided that it's not worth the time. My Macbook is used as a home theatre computer, hard wired to the internet, and is a little newer than my wife's. Is there an easy way to swap the info and settings from one macbook to another? They are both running OSX 10.8.5. Thanks!

Yeah, pretty much.
I'd back them both up to one of your externals and then boot from the restore partition and restore the other's backup.
I'm paranoid though. I typically won't do that without also having a bootable image of both (Carbon Copy Cloner).
