Is it possible to swap out an iMac superdrive with another better internal drive (different brand) ?

I've had nothing but problems with mine and am getting to the point where instead of replacing the same drive, I'd consider just putting in a completely different one.

Depending on the model you have, you can probably only get a Matsushita (aka Matshita or Panasonic) disc drive. Go on www.ifixit.org and look for a drive for your model. Or, you could replace your disc drive with another hard drive.

Hmm...I have a 24" iMac 9,1 mid-2009. It doesn't come up on ifixit.

Is Matsushita the optical drive that's already in most of the recent iMacs?
