Swapping service between 3G and 4

I work in construction and recently updated from a 3G to an iPhone 4. I would like to use my 3G while I am at work and my 4 all other times to lower the chance that I destroy my brand new phone. Is the new micro sim the only active sim? Can I turn off my 4 and turn on my 3G to use the 3G while at work? Or do I need to swap sims with an adapter?

You need to use an adaptor if you want to switch between the 4 and 3G.

Yes, like said above.
You will need one of those micro sim adapters.
Then you can take your microsim and put it in your 3G and back and forth any time.

I wouldn't advise it though. I got my micro-sim stuck in my 3GS one day. Not a pretty sight. Those sim adapters are pretty cheaply made.
