Sweat on iPhone mute switch

For some reason I get really sweaty, and today, I accidentally touched the mute switch area of my iPhone 6s with sweaty hands. Is it possible for the sweat to get to the internals of the device and damage it because of the way the mute switch is designed or is there something in the design of the switch that could prevent the sweat from getting into the device and damaging the switch or corrode the internals?
