Switch from 2yr to NEXT after i preordered??

So i preordered a plus 64gb on apple for at&t and signed up for same 2yr plan. It looks like NEXT will indeed be cheaper since I use 10gb/mo on single line.

Is it possible to somehow switch to NEXT before Apple charges me the $400 without having to return the phone and then wait for another one.
 
I would probably cancel asap before your line subsidy gets messed with. Hopefully someone has a more direct answer for you.
 
Havent been able to reach anyone from apple so far.

Any suggestions from anyone else?
 
You PAID the subsidy price and now want to switch to NEXT? Or did you select NEXT at checkout but just need to switch the plan to NEXT?

I paid the subsidy price when i ordered but the next & mobile share will be cheaper than my 2yr and standard package.

I'm afraid you will have to cancel your order and start again. It will probably take some time for them to get the account info (charges, upgrade eligibility status) sorted out. You can proceed without waiting for all that, but be prepared for credit card charges on the old purchase plus any new one.

You *might* be able to get a cs rep to change things over, but I'm not sure it's even possible. And if it is indeed possible, you'll need to get a rep that's well versed on the procedures.
 
Thats what i figured. I'll just stick with my 2 yr and unlimited data plan.
 
Actually you're not stuck. NY does not allow Next to be purchased online, so I went subsidy. Being 3am, of course I chose the wrong line. Multiple CSRs from both Apple and AT&T said to oh to the store. They will allow you to return the phone and then re-buy it. Odds are it'll be a pain, but possible.

I need to try as the line I used was not eligible and it cost me $199 extra ($808 after taxes).
 
I asked a rep in store yesterday and they said you can do it once you get your phone. Basically, they will give you back the money you paid, and start charging you the monthly Next fee. However, I worked out the math, and after I thought I was going to go the Next route, the phone is still cheaper if you do the annual contract. The roughly $300 you will get back when you upgrade next year makes Next actually cost more. That's how they do it.

To put it simple. Next is cheaper. Personally I find it better than the grandfathered in unlimited because you actually get all of the features enabled.

2-year contract:
Phone Line = $40 per mo
Phone Up Front Cost = $199.99/$299.99/$399.99/$499.99
After Contract Phone Line = $40 per mo

Next contract:
Phone Line = $15 per mo + Next Cost per mo
Phone Cost = $649.99/$749.99/$849.99/$949.99
Next 12 (20 mo) = $32.50/$37.50/$42.50/$47.50
Next 18 (24 mo) = $27.08/$31.25/$35.42/$39.58
After Contract Phone Line = $15 per mo

At the end of the contract this will be the cost of each phone. I will even subtract $15 from the 2-year contract monthly cost.

2-year contract = $799.99/$899.99/$999.99/$1099.99
Next = $649.99/$749.99/$849.99/$949.99

Do you have to turn your iPhone in after two years to upgrade? If so I don't think it is cheaper as I just sold my two year IP5 for $325.00

No. If you decide you want to upgrade and not keep the phone then you only need to pay for 12 or 18 months depending on the plan you decided.

You end up paying the following for the phone then loosing it when you upgrade.

Next 12 (20 mo) = $389.99/$449.99/$509.99/$569.99
Next 18 (24 mo) = $487.49/$562.49/$637.49/$712.49

If you want to upgrade and keep the phone then you will need to pay off the phone before the upgrade or wait until the end of the contract of 20 or 24 months.

On top of losing an additional discount that AT&T offers with their bargain plan that you automatically lose if you get a subsidized phone instead of a NEXT phone. That adds up (for me) to an additional 300 in a year. So, I just subtract that from the NEXT price you have up there and I end up MUCH better off by going without the subsidy and doing NEXT. It's a no-brainer.
