Hello everyone,

I know that this is the question of the moment, and that in a way, it is impossible to have a clear answer until the different models have been tested. Nevertheless, I take the risk of asking it to potentially know which model I should move towards according to my needs (or even if the change is really this year).

I have been an iPhone X owner since Christmas 2017. In the past, since I joined Apple, I have had a 4S, 5S and 6S+. Originally, I changed every 2 years. With the X model, I could easily wait 3 years (Having given my old models to family, I confirm that they all still work).

I am very satisfied with the iPhone X: When I bought it, in my opinion, it was the perfect size. A few years later, I wouldn't mind a slightly larger screen. Since a few weeks, I noticed some latencies on the model, nothing insurmountable, but at times, you can feel it pedaling in the semolina. Concerning the battery, it says "Repair" (Is it worrying?) with a maximum capacity of 84%. That's for the report.

Concerning my use, in addition to having a classic use of my phone (Certainly more advanced than the normal. Indeed, I tend to do everything on my phone. I take out my computer in case of last resort. Indeed, I really use my computer in a different setting knowing that this means I am at my desk. Where the phone is my daily life no matter where I am), I have a video business where I run a YouTube channel. So, all my videos are filmed with my iPhone and the excellent "Filmic Pro" application. All the writing of notes and feeding of social networks is also done with my phone.

So I write my videos on my iPhone, then I have them on my iPad, I film with my iPhone and the video editing is done on my MacBook Pro 16 inch 2019.

So much for the need. Now the question is this: Is it relevant to consider a change of model? If so, which one to turn to?

The 12 Pro seems to have bad echoes as the differences seem minor compared to the 12. The 12 Pro Max seems very good from a specific point of view, but is very expensive and considering its size, I have serious doubts about whether it is viable (even if for having taken over the 11 Pro Max, the model itself does not seem so "imposing"). Especially since if the phone is bigger, it requires the change of accessories (especially the car holder).

What's your opinion on this ? Of course, all this will require confirmation once the models are released.

A few subsidiary questions:

\- At the end of 2020, at what price will you resell an iPhone X?

\- There is no charger in the box. I have an Aukey 60W charger. Could it do the job with these new models? Or should I get another wall charger? Indeed, the paradox is the following: These chargers are made for quick charging. However, it seems to me that fast charging is bad for the battery. Isn't this the case?

\- A milestone seemed to have been passed with the iPhone X, but nowadays, the phones in this new range, even with advanced use, have a better longevity, don't they?

Thank you in advance for all your answers.

J’ai vu ton post sur JVC 🤣
Je suis dans la même situation que toi.
Mon iPhone X est à 79% de capacité de batterie. J’hésite à changer la batterie ou partir sur un iPhone 12 en le revendant...

I'm upgrading from an iPhone X 256GB to a 12 Pro 256GB. My X still works perfectly, but I decided to treat myself to an upgrade after nearly three years with the X. I had the battery replaced back when Apple did it at a discounted price, so my battery health is still good at 92%.

A 60W charger is more than enough for any iPhone. You're right about fast charging - it can cause the battery to deteriorate sooner.

I will most likely keep the 12 Pro for three years, just like I have done with my X. I'm looking forward to the slightly larger screen and the much better cameras. Only you can decide if the upgrade is worth it for you. If a new phone is a bit much for your budget, I would recommend getting your X battery replaced. That should breathe new life into it.

Thanks for your message. Like I said, my needs are videos and storage. In fact, 64Go is not sufficient at this moment, only 3GB remaining... But some people say the 12 Pro is not the right model because it is close to the 12 with a better price, are you agree with that?

The 12 looks like a great phone too. If 64GB isn't sufficient, then you'll have to step up to the 12 128GB. That brings the price closer to the 12 Pro. If you do a lot of filming, you might want the Pro's extra camera.

I considered getting a 12, but I decided the 12 Pro is worth the additional cost, especially if I'm keeping the phone for three years.

You're right! And what're your thoughts on 12 Pro Max?

I am in a similar boat except my phone is only for personal use. Like you, I used to always upgrade every 2 years but the X has aged wonderfully. I have pretty much decided to head on into year 4 because iPhones are just so expensive now. Also as I get older I’m more realistic and simply care less about having the absolute latest tech. I have noticed the slight lag on iOS14, specifically that occasional delay when you start typing a message (which, to be honest, we could completely call apple out on because are you serious? That’s where we see lag?? Haha). My original battery is still at 88% and in my current day-to-day it is more than enough. I would consider paying apple to replace it for $70 or whatever it is if I was going to go traveling or something. If I was buying a 12, as always, Apple has set the prices and features perfectly to make it annoying to decide and get as much money as possible out of you. The iPhone 12 is a bad deal because it’s 64GB. So when you compare the 128GB iPhone 12 to the 12 Pro, it’s only $100 for a telephoto camera and extra 2GB of RAM. But then, the Max is only another $100 for a much larger display, battery and an ACTUAL camera upgrade. So really it’s just such a mess. I think personally I have to out-wait the notch to be satisfied. I know that if I buy a 4th gen notch iPhone and they eliminate or greatly reduce the notch the next year I would hate my phone so much and wouldn’t be able to wait 3-4 years without upgrading. To summarize, I am sticking with the ol’ X for now because I have faith in my patience. Next year is all but guaranteed to have some of the greatest upgrades ever because, quite frankly, Apple is legitimately falling behind compared to the competition in many ways. And we can all sit here and say that doesn’t matter, or some nonsense about how Apple is still better at everything because we’re blind fanboys supporting a corporation that just wants our money, but it ALWAYS matters eventually. Sorry. That was a long one haha.

Good summary, I can get £350 for my iphone x 256gb now, paid full price when it launched here in the UK. Battery Health is 80% so will get a new battery, just waiting to see if Apple do a discounted deal like they have done before. Either I sell the phone as it is now for £350 and get an Iphone 12 128gb, around £500 upgrade for me. Or change the battery and keep it as a second phone.

Thanks for your answers. Difficult to say. Yes, the choice to change the battery is the most prudent. But my storage is almost full: 3GB remaining. So, for my needs, not the best choice may be.

After that, Pro or Pro Max: Very difficult to position myself. Size is an issue but that worth it may be for my needs?
