Hi all,

I just ordered my new MacBook Pro. I will transfer my current hard disk in my old MacBook Pro (Unibody, 17") to my new MacBook Pro (Unibody, 13"). Will the current OS X installation and the programs "just work" given the change in hardware (17" unibody to 13" unibody), or should I expect any problems?

Thanks,
Michael

I've never done this myself, but I was under the impression you could connect the MBP's together via USB and transfer everything over? Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge can confirm or deny that.

Hi all,

thanks for the replies so far.

The safe way would probably be to just restore from time machine, after switching the hard disk. It takes longer, but I'll probably do just that.

All the best,
Michael

You can connect them via firewire and use the Target Disk Mode (Hold T during startup) and then you can just transfer all files. Target Disk Mode will not work if you have a FIRMWARE password on the computer.
