Switch Number Upon Arrival?

I just preordered my 16GB iPhone 4. To get through the system I clicked "Give me a new phone number" because it kept timing out if I said "switch my number to AT&T"

I checked last night, and my number is eligible to move. If I don't activate the phone, and then call them on the 24th, can I switch my number?
