I recently switched to Mac (24" iMac). Should I reformat my iPod so it is in Macintosh format? What are the advantages? If it makes any difference I'd still like to use it as a portable hard drive occasionally to transfer files to windows machines. Thanks!

I keep my iPod formatted for Windows so I can use it for large file transfers between the two platforms. A Mac formatted iPod can't do this. The only real disadvantage I find is that updates to the iPod's firmware must be installed from a PC. This isn't really a problem for me since a PC is readily accessible.

The Mac format is meant to be slightly more reliable for portable hard drives (not relevant for Flash-based iPods such as the nano and shuffle). :)
