I currently have a iphone3g paying month to month on att as my contract has been up for a while. I would like to transfer over to att's GoPhone prepaid service. I don't get any use out of my data plan, as I'm on wifi most of the time. So i don't want to pay for a data plan, i just want to use it for talk/text and wifi.

I've googled and it seems people say you can use iphone on gophone, but can you move your att iphone number to a att gophone while using the same iphone? I mean i know i would have to get a gophone sim, then i activate the sim, without telling them it is for iphone, i have to make up a IMEI number(can't be iphone?), then i port my number to the prepaid sim? then i replace my current iphone sim with the new one?

So freaking lame that i can't just cancel my data plan on att and use the iphone for talk/text/wifi.
