Yes, the MBP's still have the IR (or whatever it is )sensors, so you can still use the remote.

Go to System Pref-->Security-->Gen. tab and select Unpair on your old MBP. On your new one (and make sure it's not near the old one), point the remote and pair it with hte Play and Menu keys and the paired splash should come up. If you don't have the old computer anymore, you don't need to unpair anything!
