I currently have an XS Max on AT&T. I have an iPhone 13 pre-ordered unassociated with any carrier. I'd like to avoid paying the device upgrade fee on either AT&T or VZ. I also want to get the $500 from Verizon for switching. I may already be missing out on some perks for switching by having bought the 13 directly from Apple, but alas. What are the best practices for switching carriers and phones at the same time to maximize perks, minimize fees, and have it all go smoothly? Has anyone else done something like this and have advice? Will I be able to switch phones and carrier at the same time?

Edit: For anyone who stumbles across this in the future, it did work. However, turns out verizon is much worse at my home than AT&T was. Bummer.

I would just tell Verizon that you want to switch and bring your own device. Give them the info for your ATT account and the iPhone 13 and you should be good to go. Verizon won’t care that you had been using an iPhone XS and ATT will never know about the iPhone 13.

Piggybacking on here with an example of what NOT to do, and to see if anyone has a suggestion here. I just switched from AT&T to Verizon and they used the IMEI from my existing iPhone12 to set up the account. It wasn't until after my account was setup that I learned the same IMEI has to be active for 45 days to get the rebate (my stupidity for not looking more closely, but the main BYOD offer page says the "line" has to be activated 45 days, whereas the detailed rebate terms say the same "device" must be active, which is also what the Verizon rep told me but it was too late to change since the account was already setup). So, at this point if I want to get the $500 rebate, I have to stick with my iPhone 12 for 45 days and not activate my new iPhone 13. Has anyone found a way around this, or am I getting bad information here? I've not had much luck getting a clear answer from Verizon.

I was thinking this process should work, glad to hear so far no one saying it shouldn’t work.
