I currently have a Core Duo (black) Macbook and i very recently upgraded the hard drive to a new Hitachi Travelstar 7k320.

Im interested in upgrading to the new Core 2 Duo unibody Macbooks. Would i be able to swap in the Hitachi and have it work with no problems?

Yep, but you have to format the drive first, and then load everything on to it, and it should work great. :D

No I think the drive he's talking about already has OS X installed - it's in his current machine. You can just swap that over if you like.

Maybe I'm missing something though.

So i can swap in the Hitachi and just boot up?

I guess what im concerned with is the minor differences between old and new Macbooks such as the different function keys etc. and compatibility issues being that the Hitachi is formatted for the old Macbook.

*edit - Im also considering a base Macbook Pro.

If you want to wait, I am getting the new unibody macbook to replace my current white macbook tomorrow. I am just going to take the hard drive out of the white mb and move it into the unibody, I can let you know here how that goes tomorrow. Similar situation I guess. :)

I wouldn't do that. Your white MacBook is almost certainly gong to lack the driver support that the Unibody Mac will have. Just use the migration assistant - that is what it is there for.
