Switching iTunes account

I'm thinking about creating a new iTunes account based on a gift card, instead of my current credit card one, but I'm wondering what will happen to the iPhone software I have purchased with my previous account? Is there a way to transfer it or will I have to buy and download everything from zero?

Why don't you just unregister your credit card with the account? (For billing stuff in the account options, select "None.") And gift cards can still be used on credit-card-tied accounts, you know.
