If I insert my HDD into a friend's macbook to use for a few weeks, will this transfer all settings, information, etc.?

Also, after a few weeks if the old HDD is reinserted, will any of the information from the preview couple weeks remain on the computer?

As all the data is stored on the HDD, it will be just like "home" with your Mac.
All data will be available on the MacBook and after the switch back, all data will be available on the MBP.
But make sure, that the OS version on your Mac is compatible with the OS version on the MacBook, as you need the drivers for the MacBook.

For instance, if you have a Mac bought in 2009, it will have come with Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6. A MacBook bought in 2010 will have come with 10.6.3 and later, thus you should have at least Mac OS X 10.6 on your Mac.

I apologize for the inconsistencies in my post. Both machines are macbook pros (i believe the same year/make/generation etc.). Regardless, thank you for your post!
