For those that have a Magic Keyboard with TouchID, if you switch keyboards do you need to reprogram TouchID or does the computer keep the settings?
It only works on Apple Silicon Macs. Not sure about intel, but for m1 it does work.
Of course it needs to be paired to the computer but the pairing is just by connecting the wire to your computer. I am quite sure that your fingerprint is not stored on the keyboard, for obvious reasons. It only works on Apple Silicon Macs.
OP, your question is very interesting. There's something that links the keyboard to the computer for security matter. I think that it shouldn't work as a simple reader. Apple might synched Keyboard to computer.
I paired the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID with my M1 Pro MBP yesterday. The process is as seamless as connecting the old Magic Keyboard without Touch ID. No any setting is needed. The Touch ID just works.I figured it wasn't stored on the keyboard, but I'm wondering if there is a security issue where the computer won't recognize the fingerprint due to a changed TouchID sensor. I'm probably overthinking things. I'll see how it goes when I pick up my new keyboard. Will post results here, but have a feeling it'll work.
I already have one but wanted to change keyboards (i.e., white keyboard with TouchID to the new keyboard with black keys and TouchID).I paired the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID with my M1 Pro MBP yesterday. The process is as seamless as connecting the old Magic Keyboard without Touch ID. No any setting is needed. The Touch ID just works.
