At home like most people no proxy configuration is needed for my mba. At work however there are a bunch of settings necessary ( done in the network settings preference panel advanced area ).
It is not very hard of course to create multiple locations and to switch them as needed.
It would be nice though to get this done automatically. I was thinking about doing it thru a little shell script hacking and a little apple script invocation.
It turns out that that it looks like a piece of software known as controlplane ( picked up recently by Dustin thanks as a fork from marco polo ) is getting a bunch of work and should do the trick.
I installed it and just need to do some testing at work to see if everything is hunky dory with how I configured it. It can pick up multiple "evidence sources" to decide how to configure things ( and it can configure a whole bunch of things besides network location ) but for me it sure seems like IP address is the only thing I need to work from for my admittedly simplistic needs.
