Switching on sound

I have a G4 15" Powerbook. When I switch the machine on, I am greeted with a login sound as the screen comes to life. Can anyone tell me how to turn this sound off. Its fine during the day but it seem very loud when you are doing that at night.

I have tried to look at system preference but can not find anything there.

Any help would be appreciated.
