Switching SIMS iPhone to iPhone

Right now I have a 8GB iPhone 3G. I will be converting my AT&T account to a family account in January and adding my wife and son. I can't believe it but my wife is actually interested in getting an iPhone. You have to understand she has never had the slightest bit of interest in my "gadgets" in the past. All she has ever wanted was just a plain old cell phone. But she keeps seeing how easy it is to read email and browse the web and she is hooked now. What I'm thinking though is in January, I would like to get a 16GB iPhone and let her have my 8GB. If I do this, could I just switch the SIMS between the two iPhones so I could have my current number on the 16GB?

Thanks.

Yes, once you activate the new phone, it will work with any AT&T SIM (marked as a 3G one, anyway) you put in it. I have 2 3G iPhones now (one is going up for sale shortly), both are activated and each work when I put the one SIM card I have in either them...
