Switching Sync from PC to Mac

Hi all

I have been going through all my music and selecting what I want on my iPhone. Previously, the iPhone had been synced using a XP laptop and I no longer wish to use that, I have all mu music transfered over to my MBP.
When I connected my iPhone to my MBP, it asked me if I wanted to erase and sync, since it tells me only one computer can be used.

I have no problem doing that but will it first back up my contacts and phone settings and then restore them?

Edit: I selected MERGE so my calander and contacts were loaded onto my MBP. All I will lose are my bookmarks, I can get them later.
