Okay, so, lately (since I started using Mail), I hear a swoosh noise every minute or two, whether Mail is open or not. I have no idea what it is, and it's getting really annoying..I'm not receiving or sending any messages, it's just sort of there. Any ideas?

Hi,

do you hear this sound even when you logged in without any programs started? Or does it start as you started (and closed) Mail?

/Rupert

yeah so i'd noticed the same swooshy sound too. it wasn't there on the first couple of weeks of using my new computer, but one day it just started, and hasn't stopped, repeating itself every so minutes [i have a new macbook pro that's around 4 months old]. Now, on my office [which is mac platform'ed], some of the older computers have been switched to new aluminum intel imacs, and they're getting the same swoosh sound too. I don't use mail on mine, but we do use mail at the office. They're all running leopard though, maybe it's a bug. Though i have an older intel imac which i updated to leopard, in which i do use mail, and i don't get the sound.

Theres a button on your keyboard that disables the sounds. Mute :p.

yeah well, it's not as annoying as it is preoccupating. i'm assuming it's some sort of bug. bottom line is, something's making the sound, and only God knows what it's doing without you noticing..nothing in computers happen 'just because'

I use mail and I've had this problem for a while. Just now it did it about ten times in a row. Swoosh swoosh... Really annoying. I can't believe this hasn't been fixed yet. I can't wait until Snow Leopard.

Mail Prefs>new mail sound>none. Or, system prefs>sound>uncheck "Play user interface sound effects". Or, earmuffs.

I don't think it's in Mail. I went into the iChat prefs and found a swoosh noise. It's for when one of your chat buddies signs on or off. I couldn't find the noise in Mail.

Yeah, I see "swoosh sound" and I think iChat. Could be the sound of you (or buddies) logging in and out.

Remember that iChat might still be running in the background even if its main window is closed.
