As I wrote my iMac is dying/dead.
I cannot get to the Hardware Test phase by pressing D so I'm wondering if the symptoms might "prove" it's the graphic cards having gone west.
Right now the iMac 27 (late 2009) boots with the chime, then the apple logo, then the spinning gear which eventually stops and I'm left with the iMac with the apple logo only and some faint noise of the HDD doing its business.
I have discovered I can ping it and even connect to it via FTP and the files are all there.
The login screen never comes up.
Since the warning signs of this failure were freezes of the GUI save for the mouse pointer freely moving I wonder if it's the graphics components.
Would Apple try to fix it since the guarantee is long expired or do I just need to throw it away ?
Thanks
