I know this has been a popular topic and I've searched though any and all threads I could find on the issue. I'm sure my solution is embedded somewhere on this site but I haven't found it yet :)

My sync and backup is sooo long and i'm not talking 30 mins long. Last time I attempted a sync/backup it was started before I went to bed. I woke up and it was still "Syncing 'iphone'" in the top itunes window. This eventually completed and then the backup started!! I figured it would have been complete before I left for work in an hour... well the progress bar had barely gotten anywhere. So being desperate to get a good backup I packed up my laptop and carried it to work the whole time never disconnecting or stopping the backup process. I was at work for over 3 hours before I decided that I had to stop it to make a call and the progress bar was maybe about 4th the way though. So roughly 12 hours later I still had not gotten a backup or even gotten half way though one!!

I have read the post about not sending the reports and I have deleted the reports from my computer and make sure to always select to not send them. I found a similar post but the user was running a MAC and the solution was "Open Activity Monitor in Utilities and kill MD Crash Report Too." I'm not sure if this information is strictly MAC related because I couldn't find a process like this running though task manager (maybe I'm on the wrong path).

My iphone is on 2.1 - I haven't upgraded to 2.2 yet bc I would like to get a backup before doing so. Itunes is running 8.0.2.20. I have an 8G 3G phone with 3.39 GB of Audio, 42.5MB of Photos, 323.3MB of Apps and 295.5 MB Other (3 free GB)

Any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

ps - I do need a new cable, it's starting to pull away at the USB connection but would that really cause my problems???

Thanks in advance for each of your expertise and help! :)
