Hi all,
I've got my Google calendar syncing with iCal, but iCal is not picking up the fact that my son has shared his google calendar with my google calendar app.

On Google calendar, I see all my calendars (work, family, birthdays, etc) in one column, then there's a space, and then "Other calendars". That's where my son's shared calendar comes up.

Is there any way to see these shared "Other calendars" in iCal? Do I need to ask him to share to iCal somehow?

iCal, as in Mac Calendar? You posted in iOS 11 sub-board.

But if on Mac, I do not sync with Google, so not sure if the syncing is supposed to copy over subscribed calendars.

You can add a calendar subscription: iCal > File > New Calendar Subscription. Enter the URL to the shared calendar.

i believe you need to go to this link below and select the additional calendars you want to sync. It took a while for me to figure it out too.

https://calendar.google.com/calendar/syncselect

That's good for iOS calendar but it sounds like the OP means Calendar on an iMac. This should be moved to the appropriate sub-forum if confirmed.

Two ways to do this and the calendar will appear in different spots in the left column depending on which you use. You could try both to see which one you prefer.

  1. Go to Calendar>Preferences>Accounts>(select the Google account on left)>Delegation and check the calendar if you see it there. The calendar should show up on the left.
  2. At the Google Calendar website hover over the calendar name and click the box with triangle that appears. Select "Calendar settings" and on the page that comes up click the green ICAL button and copy the URL that pops up. Open Calendar on your Mac and File>New Calendar Subscription... and paste the URL.
I think if your son had given you read/write permissions the calendar would show up without you having to do any of this.

it did also fix my issue with iCAL on mac. because google calendar needs to know which calendars to sync

Hey...I think you're right and that would be method #3 and the best way. If I ever knew that...I forgot it even though I've got mine set up that way.

When I say the best way I think if it's a shared Google calendar to Google calendar the syncing is nice. If the calendar is external to Google routing it through Google creates sync delays.

Thanks guys, all fixed now.
PS: It was for my imac so move the thread if you wish. You're a great team! Cheers.
