Sync iCal with Google when iCal isn't running

Hello everybody :)

I use GeekTool to display upcoming events from my iCal calendar. My iCal is synced with my Google calendar, which works nicely without breaking.

The one thing that annoys me, is iCal has to be running to update any changes from Google. Since I'm running a calendar using GeekTool, I don't really want to be running iCal at all. Is there a way to get iCal to sync with Google without having to be open?
