This is becoming a new learning experience upgrading to the new mac mini. With my 2010 mini, hook up iPhone with proper cable and it would get backed up. Easy pease. Finally get my cable to hook up my iPhone SE 2nd gen to my new iMac and nothing happens. WTF! Tried my google fu but no luck. Someone please enlighten me on the new way to sync my iPhone to my new mac mini. Thanks.

When you connect the phone to the computer for the first time, you should get a message on your phone (make sure the phone is unlocked) asking you if you want to trust this computer via cable and Wifi. You should see the same message on your computer. If you don't see it, click on Finder and under Locations in sidebar, you should see your phone listed. Click on your phone and you should see the "trust this computer"message. Click trust on both devices. Once you do that, you should see the Sync your phone set up in the same place in Finder.

Thanks for the reply. I do not see the iPhone in finder. I did shut off most services when I got the mini so it must be one of them. Just have find it.

Well, I tried using TB and USB and in finder, my iphone does not come up. Been through every menu to see what needed to be turned on. Does icloud have to be on even though I don't use it? Read through all the help menus on the mini. Also tried air sync. Still nothing. About to send this mini back and stay with windows.

That message does not come up. I just reset my location and privacy so will see how it goes when I get home.

Glad you got this resolved. Curious, what is the reason you do not use iCloud for wireless sync/backup?
When you purchase a new iPhone, is it not a long winded process to setup the new device?
