iPhone XS Sync Photos from external drive

Hey guys, I need help syncing photos from my external hard drive.


My MacBook Pro was filling up and I decide to move my photo library to an external hard drive. I copied the iPhoto’s library to the external hard drive and deleted the original one from my machine. I set the library location to point to the external hard drive

However when I try to sync the photos to my iPhone, iTunes can’t find anything to sync. I’ve googled extensively but I can’t seem to resolve the issue.

Any guidance will be appreciated. I can access the photos from my drive through iPhoto’s I just can’t get ITunes to sync them to my phone.

Can you just copy/paste from the drive to the folder you want on your mac then use itunes to sync to iphone.

I think I could probably do that but that would mean putting the photos back on an already full hard drive. Also I arranged my photos into albums over the last years, I’m not sure if I will lose the albums if I do that
