sync stalls

I have a 3G iPhone and I just got a new pc. (Yes, I know I need a mac, see the login name.) I copied over my entire iTunes library and installed iTunes 8.2. I wanted to sync the iPhone to add/remove some music and movies. However, when it is syncing it just stalls at Backing up your iPhone.

What can I do to get around this issue?
 
Update -- Sync complete

Somehow there were two copies of each app in the iTunes library. Once I deleted the extra copy I was able to sync to iTunes just fine.
