I have read a few posts about this and really do not see anyone address what I am looking to do.

I have all my iTunes music on a shared external drive and it plays wonderful in my house. We each make our own play list and need to add the music manually when one of the machines puts new music on the drive but all else is great.

My wife and both have laptops and they sync fine when we are home but I travel a ton and when I go to sync on the road it cannot find the music and gives me a sync error for every file it can't find and wants to either add them to my laptop or delete them off the device so I cancel the sync. Is there a way to make this work or do I need to just start storing my music locally on each machine again?

Thanks!
K

AFAIK you can not sync music from 2 different libraries...you have a shared drive as 1 library, and your notebook is a separate library. You can sync contacts/calendars, etc on 2 computers, but not music/movies.
