Synced photos lost

Hi, i synced my iphone with itunes and all the contacts, and applications were saved but the photos were not.i have checked iphoto and they are not in there. is there anywhere else that they could have gone?i need these fotos.

p.s i did not press import photo in iphot..does that make a difference?Thanks

If you didn't click import then they weren't imported to your computer. However they shouldn't have been deleted from your phone... strange
