Synced to iCloud, many iCal events missing

I just upgraded my iPod touch to iOS 5 and did a backup beforehand. When I opened my iPod Touch's calendar, many events I made are gone! I have my events created in a Google account in Google Calendar that is then synced to iCal and then synced to my iPod through iTunes. How can I get my previous events back?

Is there a restore to backup for iCal? Can I restore to my backup and get the events?
