Synching Gmail with Calendar?

I use Gmail for my calendar and would like to start using Calendar just to be able to use notifications.

1. Is there a way to continue using Gmail for my calendar, but synch it to Calendar so entries are synched back and forth?

2. If so, are there any issues with doing this?

Add your GMail account in Internet Accounts in System Preferences, then select to only sync the calendar.
