Synching to Macbook Air

Hey guys, just crossed over from PC and bought a Macbook Air (love it) but I am having trouble synching my iPhone. What I want to do is sync my contacts to my address book but the problem is last time I clicked "sync" it erased my numbers on my phone because I had no numbers in my address book. How would I sync my address book to download my numbers from my iPhone and have it so everytime I sync it, it updates my address book?
