Syncing apps between iPhone and iTunes

I've noticed when I download an app on my iPhone it then downloads when I launch iTunes....this seems to happen even when I get an app and delete it before connecting to iTunes. Am I missing a setting?

Open iTunes.

For Mac computer: Choose iTunes > Preferences and click the Store tab.
For Windows computer: Choose Edit > Preferences and click the Store tab.

From there, uncheck the "automatic downloads" option next to apps.
