Syncing contacts iPhone -> Mac

I can't sync the contacts I have on my iPhone towards my mac.. It only adds the 1 contact I created on the address book on my mac to my iphone and nothing else.

The first time the prompt appeared I chose 'Merge' and never have I see that prompt again, nor did it merge it.

What I've tried to do:

1 - Delete all trace of iPhone on my mac.
2 - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481
3 - Even get the little sync icon to appear and option click it + reset sync history on it, then remove
4 - Played with the options in iTunes and Address Book
etc..

And still nothing. My contacts on my iPhone just won't go on my mac.

Lion
iPhone 4 - 4.3.3

I'm kinda outta ideas. Any suggestions?

i'm struggling trying to find a way to sync my contacts/ical as well - if you get a response or find a fix for it i'd greatly appreciate a heads up.
