Syncing Gmail contacts on iPad

I have an iPad 2 and it gets synced to my husband's MBP since he has all of our music. I want to get my Gmail contacts onto the iPad. How can I do that without syncing the iPad to my computer?

Set your gmail account up as an exchange account, can all be done directly on the ipad.

Go to Mail, add a new account, and select Gmail as the new account. Should be as easy as that.
