Syncing iCal on Macbook Pro to iCloud

Hi All

If I enter an event in iCal on my MacbookPro ( Mountain Lion ) - it doesn't sync
with either my iPhone 4s calendar nor on the www.icloud.com calendar in
my account.

The web and phone based calendars sync to each other fine.

I've looked in iCal preferences but can't find the answer

In iCal, is your calendar listed under iCloud or under On my Mac?

That's the cause. You need to add things to your iCloud calendar, that's the only one that syncs.

Do I untick the 'On my Mac' button then? If I do this will all my entries in iCal be safe - I don't want to lose them

On the side bar, do you see any calendars listed under iCloud? (Do you see iCloud in your sidebar at all?)

Okay, in iCal go to Preferences->Accounts do you see your iCloud account listed? If so, is it enabled? If not, add it using the + button.

Sorry - my last post was inaccurate. The iCloud calendar was listed in the side bar - and in preferences/accounts it is enabled

Okay, what you'll have to do is move any calendar entries you want to keep over the the iCloud calendar.

To do this, edit a calendar entry and one of the options is which calendar is it on, so change it to the iCloud calendar.

Once you have moved everything to your iCloud calendar, you can delete your On The Mac calendar.
