My wife and I are trying to use one (1) iCal calendar. We have one called "Family" with sharing turned on everywhere we can. She has an iPhone 16 Pro and iPad, and I have the same kind of phone and a MacBook Pro. We can't, for the life of us, get each other's events to show on all devices, and the reminders we set never ring or remind.

What are we doing wrong? We've had Apple devices since they were invented. Many thanks for any suggestions.

I have never tried to share a calendar with someone else so, I can't be of much help outside of posting the Apple Support document about it.

In regards to Reminders, it is my understanding that you can only share lists, not individual reminders. If you have been trying to do the latter, that explains why you haven't been getting any notifications.

Welp... thanks for trying to help.

Since the invention of iCloud calendars I've always thought it was easier to use and share Google calendars in the Apple ecosystem.
Agree with this. Years ago while still on my 3GS and prior to any sort of iCloud implementation i moved to use the Google stuff and while its Google i'm still using them for email, contacts and calendar just because especially sharing calendars around seems to work better.

I can access them on my phone, iPad and any PC via the web based service and its easy to use both my own calendars and subscribe to others and them all be on all the devices no matter what. I've even got a couple i set up for fixtures for my cricket team and my daughter's youth football team where i do the entries and other people are subscribed to them. The couple of times i've looked at iCloud calendars they havent seemed to work in the same way.
