Syncing iMessage Log After Restore

I just restored my iPhone to factory settings. After logging back in with my Apple ID, my contacts, calendar, reminders, etc., are all on my phone just as they were before, but I have no iMessages. Is there a way to get them back, either from iCloud or by syncing them from iMessages on my Macbook? Or did I lose them by not restoring the iPhone from a backup?
