iPad Syncing IPad Pro to MacBook Air Issue

Has anyone have trouble syncing their iPad Pro to a MacBook ? When I sync my ipad to macbook Air via usb c cable, I get a message on my macbook sayin ‘unable to read’. Please help. Thanks in advance
