I have a 3GS iPhone (4.0.1 iOS) and an iPad (4.2.1 iOS) and I want to sync the notes between the two devices. Until recently I was using my gmail account for that purpose (where the notes are sent to your gmail and are labeled as notes) and it worked fine. I could create a note on any device and append it on the other and everything was synced correctly.

That was the case until recently. A few days ago I noticed that when I create a note on any device and then I append it from the iPhone the note doesn't sync correctly.

E.g. I create a new note on my iPhone. I am then able after a while to see that note on my iPad. I append the note on my iPad and the changes are reflected to iPhone too. So far so good, but when i try to append again the note on my iPhone the note doesn't sync back. Gmail show the last appended version from ipad and iPhone show the first version of the note. So I can sync my notes only if those notes are appended on the device where they were first created.
Has anyone experienced similar behavior with gmail syncing?
I was trying to find alternatives (e.g. evernote, MobileMe) but my requirement is to be able to see and edit my notes even if I am not connected in the network at that time (of course I don't expect them to be synced :) ) . As far as i understand evernote provides offline editing of notes only if you subscribe to the paid service. I am not sure if mobile me can provide the functionality that I need.
( thanks for reading my long post :) )
Please advise
