Syncing of messages between phone and mac does not work (sending with handoff does)

Hi,

maybe this is not supposed to work but I would like to see all my conversations from my iPhone in the Messages application on my mac. I can send messages through my phone from my mac and my mac receives messages when my phone is close. But the conversations between my phone and mac are not synced. My mac only shows the messages I received while my phone was close and the messages I send from my mac. NOT all my sms/imessage communication from the phone. Is that supposed to work?
