I just ordered a refurb MacBook to replace my aging Thinkpad 600 (Pentium 2... UGH!). This is a computer that is my Mac away from home. I want to be able to sync iCal, Address Book, Safari and Mail (especially iCal and Mail) between the two systems. Is there a way to do this? If not with Apple provided software, third party software?

If you don't want to fork over the subscription fee for .mac there are software solutions. Remember too, that .mac is only REALLY worth it if you're using the web hosting.
