Syncing really imp

Hi...
I have a macbook air and iphone 4..
Since my hardrive crashed.... now my comp has none of my contacts.. however my phone has all....
Now i am worried abt syncing with my air since i am worried that my contacts will be deleted the moment i sync.. is it true.. how can i trf them to my comp etc.. thanks

plug into itunes, right click on device and click "backup" this will backup the phone which includes contacts

it wont delete anything without warning you
