Syncing Safari Bookmarks Question

Hello,

I have set my Bookmarks up in Safari on my iPad how I want them. I would like to back these up somehow.

I see that I can sync Bookmarks with Safari through iTunes. My question is, will this sync from the iPad Safari to the computer Safri, or wipe out my iPad bookmarks since my computer Safari has no Bookmarks currently?

Workaround; Use https://lastpass.com/
