Syncing Subtitles

Any hint on how to synchronise subtitles?
I have .avi files and .srt files. The subtitles are completely out of sync, so I can't just delay it with "j" or "k" on VLC. I have Jubler, but after I load a subtitle, everytime I load the corresponding video, it (video) crashes immediately.

It's a huge, massive, galactic pain in the ass if the subtitles are not synced.

The best way to get synced subtitles is to get a video under a well-known name, like aXXo, and find subtitles with that same name. They will usually match up perfectly.

Trust me... I´ve already tried to find subtitles and video that match, but I couldn´t. Syncing is my last resource.
